Unified Communications Melbourne

Faced with inefficient, and aging systems, Hayden Enterprises needed to upgrade its company-wide communications systems. As one of the leading names in entertainment in Australia, Hayden Enterprises maintains Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne and the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace, Cremorne in Sydney. At both of those venues, the PABX systems were approaching end of life, and the disruption this was causing and expected to cause was significant.

They turned to a number of specialist communications companies in Melbourne and Sydney including, Reliance Communications, for possible solution options.

“Fortunately, one of the PABXs in one venue hadn't had a problem in 10 years, but the other one was becoming increasingly problematic, it was this one that was highlighting our need to get on top of a solution pretty quickly,” Hayden Enterprises COO, Nigel Hordern, said.

“We put a request for tender out to a number of companies, and Reliance Communications was the one that caught our attention. They seemed to understand our needs. Some of the enterprise solutions were massively impressive but, were also either expensive or too complicated… or some even seemed like old technology dressed up as something new. Reliance introduced us to Mitel/ShoreTel, and on meeting with them we were very impressed with the simplicity of the system… it was just that, feature packed yet brilliantly simple.”

Like with most Australian SMEs, Hayden Enterprises uses a lot of technology, but doesn’t have the resources for large, dedicated IT teams. The simplicity of the Mitel/ShoreTel Connect Unified Communications Platform, became a big draw card for the refresh of Hayden Enterprises’ communications platform, as was the ease of working with Reliance Communications as a service provider.

“What was really good, I found that there was a desire to engage what we needed and not what they were trying to sell us,” Hordern said. “For example, there are emergency features in the Mitel/ShoreTel solution that help us manage public safety and venue security, pertinent in the complex evolving security environment in our major cities. It’s not something we were initially aware of, but the team at Reliance Communications had really candid ideas about how to make the most of the solution and, save us money on the investment.”

“There was an enormous amount of integrity that they demonstrated in interacting with us. Whenever we had issues with the system, Reliance would address those without stonewalling – they just got on with delivering what they were supposed to be delivering.”

Why Reliance Communications is the leading name in Unified Communications Melbourne and Sydney-wide

With the new Mitel/ShoreTel solution, Hayden Enterprises was able to stabilise communications for the location that was previously having frequent issues with its PABX, and as a strategic advantage, it now has a highly scalable communications solution in Melbourne and Sydney which, in being so agile and efficient, is enabling the organisation to find better ways to work than before. The expanded range of features – such as the emergency functions, integrated, dialable, digital two-way radio system – means that Hayden Enterprises can get so much more out of its systems, improving both productivity and the cohesion between the two geographically disparate theatre locations.

“Our unified communications in Melbourne and Sydney is so much easier to manage now,” Hordern added. “I can manage the phone that's on my desk from wherever I am in the world. For example, I can re-route calls easily to another phone in the company or come to my mobile or even simultaneously with my mobile phone… the options for customisation means people can make the system work for them, not the other way around. Previously, the minimal settings I could affect had to be done before I left the office. This new system has enabled us to be more flexible, mobile, and accessible to stakeholders within the organisation, as well as our customers / producers.”

Hordern and his team were so happy with the end to end solution implemented by Reliance Communications they nominated Reliance their Telstra partner manager, to deepen the engagement with Reliance around Hayden Enterprises communications needs.

“I can rely on Reliance to liaise with Telstra or anyone on everything that we need, and they've helped us with other connections and addressing other issues with Telstra,” Hordern said. “It’s the kind of full-service, value-adding company that I know I can go to for advice on technology challenges I might be having, and they’ll provide that advice without sending me an invoice.”

One final benefit to working with Reliance is their ability to work seamlessly with other technology partners, Hordern said. “We had a major issue recently, which Reliance and two other companies were needed to try to resolve,” he said. “It was one of those freak out-of-the-box, ridiculous change events that no one would have predicted, but all three companies were involved in rectifying it as quickly and efficiently as they could. They succeeded without tripping over anyone. We seem to have picked the right partners, they worked really well together.”

For resource-limited SMEs, having partners that are trustworthy, collaborative, and consultative is key – the SME needs their partners to complement and enhance the internal & external IT resources. Reliance Communication is the leader in unified communications Melbourne and Sydney-based organisations have come to trust for its ability to be a leading, value-adding partner to SMEs across a wide range of sectors and industries.
